Community Wildlands Project description

Upcoming Stewardship Events | 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

projected last week of April Community Wildlands activates five desert trail and recreation corridors each quarter through a five-day volunteer stewardship series. Events run from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with sign-in beginning at 7:45 AM.

Each quarterly series follows a structured site progression in ascending trail length, allowing volunteers to build momentum throughout the week and conclude with a high-impact restoration effort.

Quarterly Site Sequence (Shortest to Longest)

  1. Cabot Yerxa Trail (~1.5 miles)
  2. Swiss Canyon (canyon corridor system)
  3. Blind Canyon Trail (~4 miles)
  4. Long Canyon Trail (~9.4 miles)
  5. Long Canyon Shooting Area (final activation cleanup site)

Each event focuses on waste removal, habitat protection, trail integrity, and responsible recreation education. By revisiting these five locations every quarter, the project creates measurable restoration impact while strengthening long-term community stewardship across Desert Hot Springs’ wildlands.

Tools, guidance, and safety oversight are provided. Volunteers of all experience levels are welcome.
